Day 10: The Wardei of East Africa
The population of the Wardei people of the Tana Delta region of Kenya is estimated at 53,000. When Kenya became independent, the Wardei returned from Somalia to Kenya. There is little information available about them, as they live isolated lives. They follow the Islamic religion, and the chewing of miraa (aka khat), a plant that acts like a drug, is very common among men and destroys many lives.
How can we pray?
- Pray that the Wardei tribes would find Jesus as the one true Shepherd in their pastures.
- Ask for deliverance for those chewing khat and that they take their place as fathers in the home.
- Pray for believers to find ways of being amongst them and of sharing the gospel effectively.
Proclamation: Lord, in Your name, we speak to nations: Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it in the name of Jesus Christ. (Psalm 34:13–14).
